T-Bird Volleyball completes another comeback victory on Wednesday against South Mountain

MCC Volleyball completed another comeback in their 3-2 victory over South Mountain on Wednesday night.

Mesa came out sluggish in the opening set and their lack of urgency cost them as they fell, 25-21. The T-Birds bounced back in the second set reversing the opening set score on the Cougars as they took the victory, 25-21.

In the third set the T-Birds SMCC got off to a quick start opening up a three point lead and maintaining it for a majority of the match. MCC would cut the deficit to just a single point (16-15) but the Cougars would outscore the T-Birds 9-4 down the stretch to take the set and increase their lead in the match, 2-1.

In Mesa's 3-2 win over No. 2 Scottsdale the fourth set is where the T-Birds dug deep, mounted a comeback and swung the momentum in their favor, just like clockwork MCC worked a similar stand on Wednesday.

Eerily similar to last Friday, the T-Birds began to make a run when coincidentally they were trailing, 16-9. From that point MCC would outscore SMCC 15-8 as they would have an opportunity to steal the set and force a fifth and final one as the score was tied at 24 all.

After a Brynlee Barris block to put Mesa up 25-24, reigning ACCAC DII Offensive Player of the Week put it away with a kill to send the T-Bird bench into a frenzy.

In the final set Mesa agin dug themselves into a hole, trailing 3-0 before scoring their first point. The T-Birds would work their magic, making play after play to not only keep themselves in the game but to capture the lead and extend it by as many as five points.

With the 14-9 advantage in their favor, MCC would improve their record to 2-0 (2-0 ACCAC) off a thunderous Izabel Wagner kill to send the Mesa faithful home happy.

Mesa will be back at home on Friday as they host Benedictine University - JV in a non-conference contest.
