MCC Men's Soccer exploded offensively on Saturday night, rolling past Gateway 6–1 at John D. Riggs Stadium. The victory lifts the Thunderbirds to 3-1-2 overall (2-1-2 in ACCAC).
After Gateway grabbed an early lead in the 18th minute, the Thunderbirds answered with two goals before halftime. Jace Forsberg equalized in the 29th minute off an assist from Brody Donovan, and Michael Esquivel put Mesa ahead in the 39th minute with help from Zachary Lanman.
MCC controlled the second half with four unanswered goals. Blessed Ekeleme struck in the 51st minute off another Donovan assist, before Brayan Perez extended the lead to 4–1 in the 62nd minute from a setup by Austin Manwaring. The T-Birds kept pressing as Lanman scored in the 81st minute (assisted by Donovan), and Blaise Mboneza capped the night with an 87th-minute finish.
Mesa outshot Gateway 21–6 and tallied 10 shots on goal. Donovan was the catalyst with three assists, while goalkeeper Cole Kasting collected six saves in the win.
The Thunderbirds return to action on Tuesday as they host No. 1 Phoenix College.
