The nation's top-ranked Mesa women's cross country team impressed once again, earning an 11th-place finish with 354 points at the UC Riverside Highlander Invite on Saturday.
Olivia Baker led the way with a 23rd-place finish in 21:06.9, breaking her own school record in the process. Kinley Jackson (54th, 21:39.7) and Lucy Melzer (70th, 21:54.3) also posted big personal bests, while Katie Munoz (82nd, 22:05.5) and Evalyn Perez (174th, 23:18.1) completed the scoring lineup.
Marissa Hernandez (194th, 23:41.7) and Olivia Scroggins (221st, 24:23.9) added depth in a deep, competitive field.
Head Coach Daniel Pescador was excited after his Lady T-Birds performance.
"Tremendous day for the women! On the season we now have four women under 22 minutes for 6K, which not only makes them the premier junior college team, it ranks high among NCAA universities. Olivia Baker broke her school record again, while Kinley and Lucy ran big personal bests to get under 22 minutes. Very proud how all seven competed. Just watching them warm up and go through their drills, we knew it was going to be a good day. They were really focused and committed to competing for each other. The results showed that, placing 11th out of 25 teams in the Invite section," said Pescador.
