Mesa outside hitter Marley Avechuco has been selected to the 2025 NJCAA Division II Volleyball National Championships All-Tournament Team, capping off a dominant week in Cedar Rapids and a breakout sophomore season for the T-Birds.
Avechuco was one of the most consistent attackers in the national field, finishing the tournament with 60 total kills across five matches while hitting .198 against some of the nation's top defensive teams. She recorded four double digit kill performances, highlighted by her tournament-high 16 kills against No. 3 Parkland, a five-set victory that boosted Mesa into the 5th-place match.
Her all-around production was equally impactful. Avechuco totaled 48 digs over the five matches, providing steady back-row coverage throughout Mesa's run. She also added 8 total blocks, contributing at the net on both pin rotations.
Avechuco's performance played a major role in Mesa's 6th-place national finish—the program's best result since 2017—and helped the T-Birds close the season with a 25–9 record, the highest win total under Head Coach Jordan Abalos Herrington.
Her selection to the All-Tournament Team solidifies Avechuco as one of the premier outside hitters in NJCAA Division II and highlights her importance to Mesa's postseason surge.
