No. 12 Mesa Community College volleyball team kept its strong start rolling, earning a straight-set sweep over Chandler-Gilbert on Wednesday night (25-21, 25-18, 25-18). The victory moves the Thunderbirds overall record to 8-2 (2-0 ACCAC).
Mesa's offense was balanced, with reigning ACCAC DII Offensive Player of the Week Lindsey Leavitt leading the way. Leavitt tallied 13 kills on .444 hitting, adding two blocks for a team-high 14.5 points. Isa Folau chipped in six kills and a block assist, while Marley Cortez added six kills, 11 digs, and a solo block.
Setter Isabella Jackson guided the attack with 17 assists, three aces, and nine digs, while libero & reigning NJCAA DII National Defensive Player of the Week Brianna Anderson anchoring the back row with a match-high 25 digs. Melody Jones added five kills and three blocks while Gracie McArthur had three kills and five total blocks to give Mesa a strong presence at the net.
The T-Birds return home Friday night at 7 p.m. to host Pima Community College at Theo Heap Gymnasium.
