Anderson claims her third conference honor of the season

Wednesday September 25, 2024 - 12:00 p.m. | Dylan DeVlieger

MCC Volleyball libero/defensive specialist Brianna Anderson was honored by the conference for the third time this season as she captured the DII Defensive Player of the Week award on Wednesday.

Anderson totaled 59 digs, seven assists, and six aces through two matches last week against No. 10 Scottsdale and South Mountain.

Mesa head coach Jordan Herrington, who coached Anderson at local Skyline High School is not surprised by Anderson's success, seeing her develop as an athlete throughout the years has been special to watch.

Herrington knows Anderson winning the conference award three times and national award once is an achievement in itself but still sees Anderson's ability has yet to reach its peak.

"I coached Bri as a sophomore in high school, the thing that makes Bri, Bri is her continuous hunger to get better, even that hasn't changed from the moment I met her as a young volleyball player, she still has that same hunger & that hunger is why she is only getting started," said Herrington.

Anderson credits a lot of her success to her team who have made tremendous strides throughout the season, knocking off multiple ranked opponents and building chemistry along the way has been instrumental in the T-Birds success.

"It truly is such a blessing. Playing the game I love and with this amazing team, they honestly make it easier for me to be the best I can be as a libero. Yet to be honored  with this title three times in a row, it shows how this game can be played, well on my end, & to its full potential," said Anderson.

The No. 20 T-Birds take the court on Wednesday night on the road against No. 22 Glendale before returning home on Friday to host Phoenix College.
