The MCC Women's Soccer team picked up an emphatic 7–1 victory over GateWay Community College on Friday afternoon, matching its highest goal total of the season in a complete team performance.
The Thunderbirds came out firing, building a 3–1 halftime lead before adding four more goals in the second half. Julianna Vazquez Valenzuela opened the scoring in the 3rd minute, followed by goals from Mia Abad and Alexis Vogel. After GateWay got one back late in the half, Mesa responded with a relentless offensive surge after the break.
Nicole Hipps, Jasmin Reyes, Olivia Olance, and Josephine Shinkle all found the back of the net in the second half to seal the win. Abad, Hipps, Orellana, and Naegle each contributed assists, while goalkeeper Ellie Huish recorded three saves in the victory.
Mesa outshot GateWay 25–4 and earned six corner kicks. The T-Birds improved to 4–9-1 overall (3–7-1 ACCAC) with the win.
The Thunderbirds are back in action Tuesday, hitting the road to face No. 6 Phoenix College in another ACCAC matchup.
