LAKEISHA ROBINSON NAMED DII FRESHMAN OF THE YEAR & TO ALL-REGION 1ST TEAM
Mesa Community College Women's Basketball guard Lakeisha Robinson has been named the Region I Division II Freshman of the Year while also earning All-Region First Team honors following an outstanding debut season with the Thunderbirds.
Robinson averaged 14.4 points per game while shooting 46.8% from the field and 78.8% from the free throw line, the third-best free throw percentage among ACCAC Division II players. She also added 5.7 rebounds per game, providing production on both ends of the floor for Mesa.
Embracing a spark-off-the-bench role, Robinson consistently delivered for the T-Birds throughout the season. She recorded 17 games of 15 points or more, including a season-high 25 points against rival Pima on January 31.
Robinson also proved to be a clutch performer for Mesa, scoring the go-ahead basket or free throw in two key wins this season against Chandler-Gilbert on December 3 and Phoenix College on February 21.
Her strong play during conference competition also earned her ACCAC Division II Women's Basketball Player of the Week honors in Week 8.
Robinson's impact as a freshman helped anchor the T-Birds throughout the season and earned her recognition as one of the top players in Region I Division II.
