Tucson, AZ – Getting off to a fast start, the fifth-ranked Mesa women scored an 88-62 win over Whatcom (Wash.), in their final game of the Bruce Fleck Classic played at Pima CC Saturday.
MCC grabbed a quick 31-16 lead after the first quarter and led 49-29 at halftime in improving its record to 10-2. The Orcas are now 4-10.
Nia Boston paced the T-Birds with 19 points, hitting 7-12 shots, including 3-6 from three-point range and even added four steals.
The bench came through in a big way for Mesa, producing 46 points. AnneMarie Batista added 15 points and seven rebounds while Jasmine Belt scored 13 points with six boards.
The win concludes a five-game road trip for MCC which returns home to take on the No. 10-ranked and unbeaten (13-0) NJCAA Division I team, Eastern Arizona, Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at Theo Heap Gym.
