Mesa, AZ - The Mesa Thunderbirds women's basketball team defeated the Arizona Western Matadors Saturday afternoon, 67-47.
Leading the way off the bench was sophomore Janelle Barkey, who recorded 16 points on 5-7 shooting while connecting on 6-10 free throw shooting.
Mesa shot just under 40 percent (22-56) for the game, but their ability to get to the line made a huge difference in the second half. Mesa shot 28 total free throws, making 17.
Also in double-digits for points was Zyan Smith, scoring 14 while pulling down seven total rebounds.
The T-Birds move to 7-4 overall with a 4-1 conference record. Mesa will be on the road this coming Wednesday night at Cochise College with a 5:30 pm tipoff.
