COOLIDGE, AZ - Central Arizona broke open a close game in the last six minutes and took an 83-77 victory over the Mesa women's basketball team Wednesday night.

In a game that saw eight lead changes and six ties, the Vaqueros (9-4, 6-2) took a five-point margin, 73-68, with 5:12 to play on a three-pointer by Anjenae Torregano and maintained a lead the rest of the way.

After trailing the first 11 minutes of the second half, MCC (10-5, 5-3) grabbed the lead, 68-65 on a three by Cherokee Davis (Fr., Fort McDowell, AZ/Mountain View H.S.) with 7:56 left. CAC then ran off eight unanswered points to take the five-point lead.

The T-Birds had a good three-point shooting effort, going 9-21 from behind the arc, and battled the taller Vaqueros on the boards, trailing just 40-38, but turned the ball over 18 times to CAC's 12.

Megan Gillespie (So., Phoenix, AZ/Arcadia H.S.) scored a career-high 16 points. Janessa Aukward (Fr., Laveen, AZ/Sierra Linda H.S.) added a season-high 14 and Kylie Herd (So., Phoenix, AZ/Arcadia H.S.) contributed ten.
