Mesa, AZ - The #11 Mesa Thunderbirds softball team split a double-header with the Gateway Geckos Tuesday afternoon with the Geckos winning game one, 10-7, and Mesa winning game two, 17-4.
In game one, Gateway scored 10 runs on nine hits, seven of those runs were earned by Mesa pitcher Gaby Lopez. Mesa had seven hits and eight walks but could only manage to push across seven runs.
Game two showed a more efficient Mesa offense as the T-Birds collected 14 hits, eight of which went for extra bases. Amber Siaz, Sieana Erran and Tori Gonzalez each tripled while Lindsey Paboucek, Ryann Holmes, Bailee Snyder, Sammy Quezada and Megan Campbell all doubled. Holmes finished the day 4-6, with five RBI's.
Though Lopez lost game one, she pitched a solid game two, only allowing four hits and four runs (1 ER).
Mesa is now 18-14 overall and 14-14 in ACCAC conference play. The T-Birds will play again at home on Saturday against the Pima Aztecs, first pitch at noon.
