Mesa Cross Country competes in the NJCAA Region I Championships on Friday morning at Crossroads Park in Gilbert, AZ.
Men's Cross Country:
The Thunderbirds will seek their first Region I title since 1997. Mesa has captured runner-up honors in the past four seasons as they look to break that streak. MCC is ranked No. 1 in the country but they will have their hands full as defending region champion Paradise Valley is ranked No. 3 as they look to keep the hardware.
In their last event the T-Birds competed at the UC Riverside Invite where they took 16th place in the field and were led by freshman Nick Valle who took 72nd place.
Women's Cross Country:
The No. 2 ranked Lady T-Birds are looking to win their third Region I title in four years on Friday. Mesa took second place last season to Paradise Valley as they came up just one point shy of the title. MCC will have their work cut out for them as the Pumas are the No.1 ranked team in the country.
Mesa competed last at the UC Riverside Invite last week where just like their counterparts took home 16th place and were led by freshman Kinley Jackson who was the top JUCO runner in the field finishing in 71st place out of 256 runners.
