MCC MEN’S TENNIS EARNS 4-3 CONFERENCE WIN OVER GLENDALE
Mesa Community College Men's Tennis picked up a key ACCAC victory on Tuesday, defeating Glendale 4-3 to improve to 1-3 in conference play.
The Thunderbirds secured the match behind a strong showing in singles, winning three straight-set matches and adding a critical three-set victory to clinch the team result.
After splitting the doubles courts, Mesa entered singles needing four points, and they delivered.
Kannen Stenberg earned a pivotal win at No. 3 singles, battling to a 6-4, 7-6 (5) victory. Brendan Glancy followed with a dominant 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 4, while Colby Busby controlled his match at No. 5 with a 6-0, 6-1 decision.
Those performances proved to be the difference, as Glendale took the top two singles positions in tightly contested matches. Jack Mcfarlane fell in a three-set battle at No. 1 (1-6, 6-3, 6-7), and Jaxon Spencer also dropped a three-set match at No. 2 (6-7, 7-6, 1-6).
In doubles, the pairing of Kannen Stenberg and Colby Busby secured an 8-4 win, while Jaxon Spencer and Zach Mcfarlane dropped a close 8-6 decision.
Mesa's depth ultimately carried the day, with wins across the middle and lower part of the lineup sealing the conference victory.
Head coach Feroz Rast praised his team's effort and resilience following the match.
"What a match! So proud of the mens team and how they responded today in very hot condition. We came to battle and our doubles 1 and 2 both played great. Doubles two set the tone for the day with a big win 8-4 and brought the energy from the start! Going into singles all 5 players battled and freshman Colby Busby and Kannen Stenberg were so big! Kannen clinched the match in a big 2nd set Tiebreaker! Jobs not done as we see both GCC and PVCC one more time in April."
The T-Birds will look to build momentum as they travel to take on Ottawa on Friday.
