With the regular season officially over and the playoffs beginning tomorrow, the All ACCAC/Region I teams have been announced and four Mesa Thunderbirds soccer players were honored.
Along with the All ACCAC/Region I teams being announced, the playoff tournament bracket has been released. The Mesa Thunderbirds finished as the #5 seed and will travel to Prescott, AZ to battle the #4 seed, Yavapai Roughriders, on Tuesday, October 23rd, at 6 pm. The location of the match will be played at Ken Lindley Field in Prescott. (A Google Map link to the field is provided below.) Prices for admission is $5 for adults and $3 for students.
Landing on the first team was sophomore forward, Danny Baca. On the season, Baca registered nine goals and three assists. Twice during the season, Baca recorded two hat tricks, each coming at the hands of Gateway Community College.
On the second team, Mesa had sophomore goalkeeper, Morgan Barta, and freshman defender, Briant Sanchez. For Sanchez, he didn't score any goals on the season but did have five assists to go along with a toughness on the defensive side of the field. A toughness that was also shared by Morgan Barta, who made 67 saves on the season, with a .788 save percentage while recorded six shutouts on the season.
Finally, on the honorable mention team was freshman midfielder, Jesus Garcia. Garcia knotched six goals on the season, along with one assist.
