T-Birds Take 7-3 Victory Over South Mountain

Mesa, AZ - The Mesa Thunderbirds men's soccer team defeated the South Mountain Cougars Tuesday evening, 7-3, at John D. Riggs Stadium.

The T-Birds began the first half with a 3-0 advantage, getting goals from Jesus Garcia, Danny Baca and Alec Carroll.  Mesa set their momentum on cruise control heading into the second half and within the first 15 minutes of the half, the Cougars had made it a 3-2 match.  

A penalty kick goal by Jesus Garcia pushed Mesa's lead to 4-2 but with 17 minutes to play, South Mountain connected on its third goal of the night.

Mesa continued to put pressure on the offensive side as they finished off the evening with three more goals, coming from Ivan Chaparro, Brian Oliveras and Alec Carroll again.  

In the goal for the T-Birds was Morgan Barta who made seven saves on the night.

Mesa stops a three game losing skid and moves to 3-3-1 on the season.  The T-Birds will play home this Saturday against the Pima Aztecs at 4:30 pm.
