NJCAA Region I Golf Championship Recap: Round One

Mesa Golf took to the course in the opening round of the NJCAA Region I Championship on Monday at the Ocotillo Golf Course. 

Women's Golf:

After round one the Lady T-Birds as a team shot +44 on Monday as they sit in first place in the field of two teams.

Addison King leads the way as she is in first place individually after day one firing +7 (78). Mackenzie Vongphosy is close behind in second place after shooting a +9 (80) while Kasey Reichard sits in third place behind a +10 (81) opening round. Lilian Stutz rounds out the top five after she fired a +18 (89) to start her 72 hole competition.

Men's Golf:

The Thunderbird Men find themselves in second place after they shot +12 on the day as a team. Mesa leads third place Chandler-Gilbert by five strokes while trailing the leader South Mountain by eight strokes. 

Nathan Giles and Kush Shah each had standout rounds to start their competition as they both sit tied for third place after firing +1 (72). Luke Stephens and Ross Kocsis are each tied for 10th place after shooting +5 (76) in the opening round. 

Round two will begin on Tuesday with tee times beginning at 12 p.m.
