YUMA, AZ - Mesa's six-game winning streak came to an end Wednesday night as the T-Birds fell to Arizona Western, 62-51.
Despite the loss, Mesa (14-6, 11-3) still leads Division I of the ACCAC. The Matadors improved to 11-11 and 6-8.
Mesa led at halftime, 32-25 , but fell behind in the second half, 41-40, on a free throw by Cameron Young. MCC was never able to re-gain the lead.
The Thunderbirds, who had been shooiting exceptionally well during the winning streak, had a poor night against the Matadors. MCC was 18-51 (.353) from the floor and just 4-21 (.190) on three-point attempts.
Khari Holloway (So., Jackson, Miss/Mountain Pointe (AZ) H.S.) was Mesa's only player in double figures with 18 points.
The T-Birds face another tough assignment Saturday, hosting Phoenix, ranked fourth in the nation in Division II. That game tips off at 4:00 p.m. MCC fell to the Bears on the road in December, 71-60.
