Mesa, AZ - The #15 Mesa Thunderbirds baseball team notch two more wins on the season with a sweep of the University of Arizona Club team Saturday afternoon, 11-0 (5), 6-1.
Joshua Brown started game one for the T-Birds, not allowing any hits or walks and striking out seven in four innings. Max Williams finished the final inning for Mesa, also not allowing any hits or walks. Brown recorded his second win on the young season.
Game two saw Cameron Doherty go four innings for the T-Birds, not allowing any hits and striking out three. Dustin Schorie officially recorded the victory, pitching 2.2 innings, not allowing a hit and striking out five. Logan Campbell finished off the ninth inning, allowing just a hit and striking out three.
Paul Steffenson and Luke Patty each tripled for Mesa but it was Patty's triple with the bases loaded that began the scoring for the T-Birds in the second inning. Steffenson, Ben Lewis and Joshua Brown all recorded two hits each.
Mesa is now 8-0 on the season and will play at home on Tuesday against Benedictine at 3 pm then will begin conference play with Glendale at home on Friday at 3 pm. They will head to Glendale on Saturday for a noon first pitch.
