T-BIRD MOMENTS OF 2025-26: MCC NAMED GILMAN TOP PRODUCING INSTITUTION, WOMEN'S SOCCER ROUTS GATEWAY
Mesa Community College was named a Top Producing Institution by the U.S. Department of State's Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program for the 25th consecutive year, continuing its longstanding commitment to providing students with global learning opportunities.
Since the Gilman Program began in 2001, 24 Mesa Community College students have earned Gilman Scholarships, allowing them to study and intern abroad while developing valuable international experience. The recognition highlighted MCC's continued dedication to expanding educational opportunities beyond the classroom.
Another memorable moment came on the soccer field as Mesa Community College Women's Soccer matched its highest offensive output of the season with a 7-1 victory over GateWay Community College.
The Thunderbirds built a 3-1 halftime lead before adding four second-half goals to complete the dominant performance. Julianna Vazquez Valenzuela, Mia Abad, Alexis Vogel, Nicole Hipps, Jasmin Reyes, Olivia Olance, and Josephine Shinkle each scored, while Mesa outshot GateWay 25-4 and improved to 4-9-1 overall and 3-7-1 in ACCAC.
From recognizing the achievements of its veteran students to celebrating an impressive conference victory, these moments reflected Mesa Community College's continued excellence in both academics and athletics.
