Mesa Community College honored several of its top-performing athletic programs during the college's 60th Anniversary celebration, recognizing teams and coaches who delivered standout national results during the 2025 fall semester.

During the program, MCC President Dr. Richard Daniel, Vice President of Student Affairs Dr. Jeanetta Hollins, and Athletic Director John Mulhern each spoke about the strength, impact, and continued growth of MCC Athletics, highlighting how these teams represent the excellence of the college both on and off the field.

Three nationally recognized teams were celebrated:

  • Women's Cross Country, the 2025 NJCAA DII National Champions and back-to-back title winners.

  • Men's Cross Country, which secured an impressive 5th-place finish at the NJCAA Championships.

  • Volleyball, finishing 6th nationally and earning the NJCAA Sportsmanship Award at the DII Championships.

Individual coaching honors were also recognized. Daniel Pescador, who led the women's cross country team to another national title, was celebrated for earning both NJCAA DII West District Coach of the Year and NJCAA National Coach of the Year.
Jordan Abalos Herrington, who guided MCC Volleyball to a Region I championship and top-six national finish, was honored as the NJCAA DII West District Volleyball Coach of the Year.

The celebration highlighted MCC Athletics' continued rise on the national stage and the significant achievements these programs contributed during the college's milestone 60th anniversary year.
