Mesa, AZ - The #11 Mesa Thunderbirds finished off day two strong with a 61-36 victory over the Grand Canyon Club team Saturday afternoon.
Led by freshman Cheyenne Begay who had 13 points, Mesa used a solid second and third quarter to seperate themselves from the GCU Club team, outscoring the Lopes 39-17 alone in those two quarters.
Diamond Fuller and Anessa Glenn each scored nine points and each had nine rebounds while Takara Wade had eight points and eight rebounds. Lynnae Mitchell had eight points while Trae Frazier finished with seven points, eight rebounds and three assists.
Mesa is now 2-1 overall on the season and will play in the AWC Classic next weekend down in Yuma, AZ. They will play on Friday afternoon against the Eastern Arizona Gila Monsters at 1:30 pm then on Saturday at 5:30 pm against the host team, Arizona Western.
