Yuma, AZ - The Mesa Thunderbirds softball team lost a double-header in Yuma Tuesday afternoon to Arizona Western, 2-0, 11-4.
In game one, Emerald Grijalva had a solid start, allowing just two runs on five hits. Mesa's bats stayed quite til the late innings, when they managed to load the bases in the sixth inning with no outs but to push runs across. Then in the seventh, they singled their first two batters aboard but once again came up empty on their next three batters to finished the game.
In game two, Mesa scored three runs in the top of the first inning but the Matadors outscored Mesa 11-1 the rest of the way to complete the two game sweep.
Mesa will be back at home on Saturday with two big games against Paradise Valley, an ACCAC DII opponent that the T-Birds are battling for position in the conference playoff picture. First pitch will be at noon.
